Our goals are to provide reliable electricity, offer energy-savings programs, services and education, and find ways to better serve our communities and citizens. Learn more about our impact, our reach and all the facets of our company that help make that happen.
Our top priority is taking care of our customers. This means keeping reliability high and power rates low. For decades, we have consistently provided electricity more than 99 percent of the time while keeping our prices below the national average.
We are the second largest electric utility within Southern Company, serving customers in the southern two-thirds of Alabama. More than 84,000 miles of power lines carry electricity to customers throughout the company’s 44,500-square-mile service territory.
We were the first electric utility in the U.S. to establish an Economic Development Department. We've been committed to encouraging and supporting economic growth throughout Alabama. We work closely with companies in their site-selection process, as well as help existing companies expand.
Alabama Power takes its responsibility to protect the environment seriously. We have a strong record of meeting or doing better than standards set by state and federal environmental agencies. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, we rank among the top of all investor-owned utilities for its investment in equipment and technology to safeguard the environment. Environmental stewardship is good business.
Our employees work with customers to help them improve the energy efficiency of their homes, businesses and communities. We also offer a variety of incentives and pricing options that allow Alabamians to better control their energy costs. Learn more.
Being involved in our communities is part of our company's culture. The Alabama Power Foundation provides support to a wide spectrum of nonprofit organizations and institutions across the state. And our employees and retirees volunteer their time and resources through the Alabama Power Service Organization and the Energizers retiree service network.
Our hydroelectric generating plants created several lakes on the Tallapoosa, Coosa and Black Warrior rivers. The plants provide our customers with clean, reliable electric energy. The surrounding waters offer abundant recreational opportunities for all who live in and visit the state.
We engage in active land management programs to preserve the natural beauty of the area surrounding the lakes. And the public has lakeshore access through public recreation areas. Beaches, boat ramps, picnic areas, trails and camping sites are maintained for the public's enjoyment.
“For the service of Alabama.” These were the words of Alabama Power founder William Patrick Lay. Service to our customers, neighbors, communities and those in need continues to guide all we do at Alabama Power. Our service has been recognized by environmental, energy efficiency, community, creative and industrial organizations. Below are some examples of the recognition we have received.
